Based on the 2021-2022 data, the undergraduate student population at MTSU is slightly skewed towards women students, with 54.8% of undergraduate students being women and 45.2% being men. The total number of full-time, first-year undergraduate students is 18,603, with 10,198 women and 8,405 men.

The largest ethnic group among the students is White, comprising 65.8% of the undergraduates population , with a total of 12,219 students.
Following behind are African American students, constituting 15.2% of the student body, with 2,820 students. Hispanic students represent 7.8% of the population, with 1,455 students, while Asian students account for 3.9%, with 729 students. Mixed race students account for 3.9% of the undergraduate student body, comprising 727 students. Finally, Hawaiian students have the smallest representation at 0.1% , with 22 students.
